National Technical Worksing Group Workshop on Potato
National Technical Working Group Workshop on Potato was held at National Potato Research Program (NPRP), Khumaltar on 23rdand 24th of Kartik 2074 (9th and 10th November 2017) with the objective of review of the present research activities and future program planning to increase the productivity and production of potato crop in the country.
The workshop was inaugurated by Chief guest Dr. BaidyaNathMahto, Acting Executive Directorof Nepal Agriculture Research Council (NARC) by planting the potato plantlet in earthen pot. The Executive Director of NARC Dr. Mahato congratulate all the personnel involve in the potato research for releasing 12 varieties to grow in the different region of the country. He emphasized to develop heat tolerant varieties for Terai condition to grow in the summer season and suitable varieties for processing industries. Dr. Yagya Prasad Giri, Director Crop and Horticulture Research NARC, Dr. Ananda Kumar Gautam, Director Planning and Co-ordination NARC, and Dr. Mahendra Singh Kadian, Representative, International Potato Research Centre were highlighted in the different aspect of the potato research.
Mr. Khagendra Sharma, Chief of National Potato Development Program Khumaltar, and Mr. Kishor Pant, Chief, and Potato Super Zone of Prime Minister Agriculture Modernization Project were also present on the occasion.Similarly, Chief of Gene Bank, Disciplinary Divisions and Scientistand Technical Officer involved in potato research were actively participated in the workshop and discussed on the issues and problems of the potato cultivation in the country.The workshop was chaired by Dr. Ram Chandra Adhikari, Coordinator of NPRP.
