Bio

Hi, I'm Bibek, an Agricultural Economist working as a Scientist in Nepal. My work focuses on the intersection of agriculture, climate change, and economic resilience, particularly in the context of smallholder farming systems. Currently, I am involved in several applied research initiatives, including the development of the Climate Adaptation Atlas for South Asia, which maps climate risks and adaptation opportunities for crops and livestock—especially dairy systems—across Nepal. I also contribute to experimental and field-based studies on agricultural insurance, input markets, and behavioral aspects of farmer decision-making, including recent work on preferences related to brown rice consumption. I regularly work with high-resolution spatial data, apply advanced statistical methods (such as Tobit and linear mixed models), and conduct robust economic and policy analysis. I’m proficient in R, Python, Stata, Nvivo, and other tools for data visualization, systematic literature review, econometrics, and geospatial analytics. My broader interests include climate-smart agriculture, rural transformation, technology adoption, and evidence-based policymaking. I enjoy translating complex data into actionable insights for farmers, development partners, and policymakers.

Current Research Projects

1. Demand for Food Safety in Nepal: Analysing Consumer Behavior in Vegetable Supply Chains

Principal Investigator | July 2025 – June 2027

Investigating consumer preferences, purchasing behavior, and willingness to pay for food safety attributes in vegetables using mixed methods, including DCEs and econometric modelling.

2. Exploring Consumer Preferences for Rice Milling Methods: Discrete Choice Experiment

Co-Investigator | July 2024 – June 2025

Examining consumer perceptions of rice attributes from different milling methods to estimate WTP and support food supply enhancement through improved milling technologies.

3. Unravelling Behavioural Models of Agricultural Technology Adoption by Farmers

Principal Investigator | July 2023 – June 2024

Exploring behavioral drivers and biases influencing farmers' adoption of modern technologies, integrating behavioral economics with conventional adoption models.

4. Modelling Farmers’ Preferences for Rice Variety Attributes Using Discrete Choice Experiment

Principal Investigator | July 2022 – June 2023

Assessing farmers’ risk perception, risk aversion, and varietal preferences in flood- and drought-prone regions using DCEs and incentivized risk experiments.

5. Atlas of Climate Adaptation in South Asian Agriculture (ACASA)

National Research Collaborator (Nepal) | January 2022 – December 2025

Contributing to the development of a granular, village-scale climate adaptation atlas for South Asia, integrating spatial data to support climate-resilient agricultural investment and policy.
