Variety Approval, Release and Registration Committee under National Seed Board officially released new varieties of different crops viz. Rice, Maize and Zinger along with complete package of practices for farmers to cultivate in different agro-ecological conditions of Nepal in the year 2016. more

 

The First Record of Tuta absoluta (Meyrick 1917) (Lepidoptera:Gelechiidae) in Nepal
leaf miner, Tutaabsoluta (Myrick, 1997) (Lepidoptera:Gelechiidae) is devastating pest of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Miller). This oligophagous pest associated with solanaceous crops can reduce yield and quality of tomato in newly invaded areas 80-100 % both in field and greenhouse conditions if control measures are not applied. Larvae of this pest feed on leaves, buds, stem and fruits of tomato. Fruit rot occurs due to secondary pathogen invasion in fruits bored by the insect. more

25th NARC Annual Commemoration Day and Silver Jubilee Celebrated

Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) celebrated its 25th  Anniversary and Silver Jubilee at NARI Premise, Khumaltar, Lalitpur on May 7, 2016 (Baisakh 25, 2073).The Chief Guest Honourable Minister for Agriculture Development Mr Haribol Gajurel, inaugurated the special function by irrigating water to the Kiwi fruit plant.

In the special function NARC staffs including Scientists, technicians and admin staffs received plaque from chief guest for serving 25 years of their continued long service in the field of agriculture research and development. Six farmers were awarded for the adoption and dissemination of agricultural technology at the function more

 

Outreach Sites Established by ARS (Horticulture), Dailekh

ARS, Dailekh established its outreach sites by organizing one day district level stakeholder workshop on 17th of Baisakh at Jhalak Dhakal Memorial Hall of ARS, Dailekh. According to the regular activity of FY 2071/72, ARS, Dailekh in the very beginning organized two village level workshop one each at Baraha VDC of Dailekh district and Malika VDC of Achham District dated on 21 and 22 Jestha respectively. Key farmers' of respective VDCs, representatives from DADO and its Service Center, VDC, functioning NGOs/INGOs, Agrovets and media personnel participated in the village level workshop. Senior Scientist, Technical Officer and Technicians of ARS, Dailekh also participated in the workshop whereby various researchers/speakers highlighted on the objectives and importance of OR sites in the research, future strategy of the station and workplan to accomplish the establishment activity.

Dr. Pandey Appointed as Executive Director of NARC

Dr Yama Raj Pandey joined Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) as Executive Director. He has been appointed as Executive Director of NARC by the cabinet decision of Government of Nepal on 26 February, 2015 and joined the same post on 2 March, 2015 at the head office NARC, Singhdurbar Plaza, Kathmandu, Nepal.more
