Subject Matter Specialist   (SMS) Training on Potato

SMS Training on 'Research Methodologies on Potato' was organized by National Potato Research Program (NPRP), NARC at Khumaltar from 5 March 2017 to 7 March 2017 with the objective of strenthening capacity of collaborating researchers and extension workers for crop management and research methodologies. There were 23 participants representing from research stations, district agriculture development offices and seed potato centres. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Y.P. Giri, Director, Crop and Horticulture Research, NARC.  Dr. B.B Khatri, Dr. S.P Dhital, Dr. K.P Upadhyay, Dr. I.P Gautam, Mr. R.B. Ojha, Dr. B.P Sharma, Mr. S Upadhyay, Mr. P Bhattarai, Dr. B.P Sah and Mr. A Mishra were the resource persons who conducted the training for three days. Administrative Director Dr. H.K Upreti and Chief of National Potato development program (NPDP) Mr. K. P Sharma attended opening and closing ceremonies as special guests in the chairmanship of Dr. B. B Khatri, Coordinator of NPRP. In the closing ceremony, Chief guest Dr. Y.P Giri Crop and Horticulture Research Director, NARC distributed the certificates to the Resource persons and the participants.

Annual Technical Review and Planning Workshop of GEF-Local Crops Project Organized

Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC), Local Initiatives for Biodiversity Research and Development (LI-BIRD), Department of Agriculture (DoA) and Bioversity International (BI) have jointly organized the Third Annual Technical Review and Planning Workshop of Local Crops Project during 20-22 February, 2017 (9-11 Falgun, 2073 BS) at Hotel View Bhrikuti, Godavari, Lalitpur. The workshop was organized with the purpose of reviewing detail progress made during 2016 in terms of delivery of expected results as well as planning of activities for 2017 to execute the Local Crops Project (LCP) which has been funded by GEF/UNEP and implemented by NARC, LI-BIRD, DoA and BI in four districts: Humla, Jumla, Lamjung and Dolakha focusing its' research and promotion works on eight mountain crops namely grain amaranth, grain type bean, buckwheat, naked barley, finger millet, foxtail millet, proso millet and cold tolerant rice. A total of 57 participants (50 males and 7 females) were participated during the workshop out of them, 34 were from NARC, 6 were from DoA, 14 were from LI-BIRD and 3 were from Bioversity International. more


Food Processing Training organized

Food processing training was conducted from 27 Sep, 2016 to 29 Sep, 2016 by Food Research Division, NARC. Trainees were farmers and small scale entrepreneurs. There were altogether 20 trainees, each 4 from Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur and Kavre district, whereas remaining contacted earlier. In first day, processing technology of tomato ketchup, tomato juice and sarbottam pitho was provided. In second day, technology of jam, ready-to-serve juice from turmeric (haledo) and pear and cake making was provided. In final day, technology of paneer and dalmoth was delivered. Finally, labeling requirements for food item was also awared. The tutors for training program were Mr. Roman Karki (Senior Scientist, S3), Mr. Achyut Mishra (Scientist, S1), Mr. Pravin Ojha (Scientist, S1), Mr. Ujjwol Subedi (Technical Officer, T6), Ms. Tripti Yadav (Food Technologist) and Ms. Roshni Maharjan (Food Technologist). In final closing session, NARI Director, Dr. Bindeshwor Prasad Sah was called as chief guest who distribute the certificate.

Training of Trainers (TOT) for Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)

Training of Trainers for Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) was conducted from 25 Oct, 2016 to 27 Oct, 2016 by Food Research Division, NARC financially supported by Asian Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (AFACI). Total participants were 25 and were senior scientist, Scientist, Technical officer from different division of NARC and also some officer from other government department under Ministry of Agriculture Development (MoAD). Training was facilitated by National Certification and Management Nepal (NATCM ). Loknath Prashad Pathak and Rishiram Adhikari are resource persons, who conducted three days training. Training materials include GAP principle, GAP requirements, GAP certification and organic farming guidelines etc. In final closing session, NARI Director, Dr. Bindeshwor Prasad Sah was called as chief guest who distribute the certificate.

Variety Approval, Release and Registration Committee under National Seed Board officially released new varieties of different crops viz. Rice, Maize and
Ginger along with complete package of practices for farmers to cultivate in different agro-ecological conditions of Nepal in the year 2016. more
