NARC Journal Editshop held

The editshop of editorial board of Journal of Nepal Agricultural Research Council was held on 11-12 April 2017 at CPDD Hall, Khumaltar. The aim of editshop was to edit and review manuscripts and finalize for publication in volume 3. The editshop was chaired by Dr. Tek Bd. Gurung, Principal Scientist & Editor-in-Chief and made acquainted with the instructions of guidelines. Altogether 23 manuscripts were received for volume 3. NARC Administration Director, Hari Krishna Upreti, Principal Scientist was present on the 1st day. Senior Scientist & Associate Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Bal Krishna Joshi; Senior Scientist & Managing Editor Ram Bd. KC; Editors Dr. Samudra Lal Joshi, former Principal Scientist; Dr. Megh Raj Tiwari, Principal Scientist; Dr.Umesh Acharya, Senior Scientist; Jiban Shrestha, Scientist along with Scientist Mahesh Sapkota and Editorial Assistant Rishi Ram Adhikari were present in editshop. The manuscripts received from Nepal and abroad were checked for plagiarism with the help of reliable and authenticate software. Dr. Gurung focused and instructed, not to make any sort of compromise on the quality of journal. The journal is pride and valuable ornament of NARC institution. Some important features such as ORCID, archiving policy, online submission system are added and revised guidelines. Finally, 12 manuscripts were accepted for publication and two manuscripts were rejected.

Interaction Program between NARC and Agriculture & Water Reource Committee

An interaction between Agriculture & Water Resource Parliamentarian Committee (AWRPC) members and senior officials from Nepal Agricultural Research Council was held at NARI hall, Khumaltar on 20th March 2017. The program was conducted in the presence of Hon. Mohan Baral, Chairman of AWRPC. Other members present in the event were Hon. Mr. Amrit Kumar Bohara, Mr. Kasinath Adhikari,  Ms. KiranYadav and Ms. Shanta Nepali. Member of National Planning Commission Hon. Dr. Prabhu Singh Budhathoki and Secretary of MoAD Dr. Suraj Pokhrel, were also present in the program.  The discussion was focused on new structure of NARC, its smooth functionality and the problems faced by the NARC to achieve the desired goal have an interaction on working area, organizational structure of NARC and ongoing activities, achievements and the problems faced by NARC. Dr. Y.R. Pandey, Executive Director of NARC welcomed respected honorable guests and other participants. Subject Matter Specialist   (SMS) Training on Potato

SMS Training on 'Research Methodologies on Potato' was organized by National Potato Research Program (NPRP), NARC at Khumaltar from 5 March 2017 to 7 March 2017 with the objective of strenthening capacity of collaborating researchers and extension workers for crop management and research methodologies. There were 23 participants representing from research stations, district agriculture development offices and seed potato centres. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Y.P. Giri, Director, Crop and Horticulture Research, NARC.  Dr. B.B Khatri, Dr. S.P Dhital, Dr. K.P Upadhyay, Dr. I.P Gautam, Mr. R.B. Ojha, Dr. B.P Sharma, Mr. S Upadhyay, Mr. P Bhattarai, Dr. B.P Sah and Mr. A Mishra were the resource persons who conducted the training for three days. Administrative Director Dr. H.K Upreti and Chief of National Potato development program (NPDP) Mr. K. P Sharma attended opening and closing ceremonies as special guests in the chairmanship of Dr. B. B Khatri, Coordinator of NPRP. In the closing ceremony, Chief guest Dr. Y.P Giri Crop and Horticulture Research Director, NARC distributed the certificates to the Resource persons and the participants.

Annual Technical Review and Planning Workshop of GEF-Local Crops Project Organized

Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC), Local Initiatives for Biodiversity Research and Development (LI-BIRD), Department of Agriculture (DoA) and Bioversity International (BI) have jointly organized the Third Annual Technical Review and Planning Workshop of Local Crops Project during 20-22 February, 2017 (9-11 Falgun, 2073 BS) at Hotel View Bhrikuti, Godavari, Lalitpur. The workshop was organized with the purpose of reviewing detail progress made during 2016 in terms of delivery of expected results as well as planning of activities for 2017 to execute the Local Crops Project (LCP) which has been funded by GEF/UNEP and implemented by NARC, LI-BIRD, DoA and BI in four districts: Humla, Jumla, Lamjung and Dolakha focusing its' research and promotion works on eight mountain crops namely grain amaranth, grain type bean, buckwheat, naked barley, finger millet, foxtail millet, proso millet and cold tolerant rice. A total of 57 participants (50 males and 7 females) were participated during the workshop out of them, 34 were from NARC, 6 were from DoA, 14 were from LI-BIRD and 3 were from Bioversity International. more
