Interaction Program on Re-Structuring of NARC

An interaction program on re- structuring of NARC was began at Regional Agriculture Research station, Lumle, Kaski on 20 August, 2018 with the objective of building Agriculture research system more productive and user friendly in the country.

The two days program was inaugurated by chief guest Honorable Minister Mr. Chakra Pani Khanal of Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development and chaired by Dr. Yubak Dhoj G.C., Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. The other dignitaries were Honorable State Minister Mrs. Ram Kumari Chaudhary, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development and Honorable Minister for Gandaki Pradesh Mr. Lekh Bahadur Thapa Magar, Ministry of Agriculture, Land Management and Co-operatives joined the program as a special guest. Mr. Sharad Chandra Shrestha, secretary of Agriculture, Land Management & Co-operatives for Gandaki Pradesh was also present as guest at the function.

The first day program was co-ordinated by Dr. Tek Bahadur Gurung, Director of Livestock & Fisheries of NARC and Dr. Baidya Nath Mahto, Executive Director of NARC highlighted the objective of the program and welcome to the invited guests. The new structural model of Nepal Agricultural Research Council was presented by Dr. Sitaram Aryal, Director of Administration, NARC followed by group discussion and interaction among group members.

Furthermore, two groups were formed to develop concrete functional pathways for restructured model of NARC and the operational mechanisms of Deemed to be university under current agriculture research system. These two groups were given the mandate to provide a clear roadmap for reforming current agriculture research system and functionality of Deemed to be university under agriculture research system.

The second day program was chaired by Dr. Baidya Nath Mahto, Executive Director of NARC following the group presentation, discussion and final recommendation.

More than 100 scientists, technical & administrative staff of NARC of different research stations were participated in the programme while pressperson from centre and different local media also attended the program and covered the major activities of the interaction programme. This is the first time in the history of NARC such kind of open interaction programme was organized to reform agriculture research system in the country to give direct output of agriculture research to its end users.
