Completion of Residential farmer training on hybrid maize seed production and cultivation techniques held

Residential Farmers Training on Hybrid Maize Seed Production and Cultivation Techniques program organized by the National Maize Research Program have been completed. Thirty farmers were selected from 24 districts of all 7 provinces of the country, 21 from individual agricultural firms and 9 from different seed production companies of which 7 were women and 23 were men participants. The closing ceremony was chaired by National Maize Research Program coordinator Dr. Rajendra Darai and Executive Director of Nepal Agricultural Research Council-NARC Dr. Dhrub Raj Bhattarai was the chief guest. Training program was coordinated by senior scientist Bhim Nath Adhikari and hosted by scientist Suk Bahadur Gurung.

 

While addressing the completion of the training program, the executive director said that while he was the head of the Outreach Research Division, the residential training program was initiated, and this type of training will help in the development of commodity based enterprises. Stating that import substitution in maize seeds is the main challenge at present, executive director Dr. Bhattariai asked the training participants to get involved in seed production. While addressing the same program, the maize research coordinator Dr. Rajendra Darai said that the entire maize research family is united for the development of technology based on the farmers’ problems and informed that the maize scientists/technicians will always be ready for the technical advice and suggestions of the farmers involved in the maize seed production.
