Official of Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) and International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) held high-level discussions on various agricultural research issues. A discussion was held between the two organizations on 6th of December, 2023 at the central office of NARC, Khumaltar, Lalitpur, to further expand the cooperation in agricultural research In the discussion, Executive Director of NARC Dr. Dhruba Raj Bhattarai presented the agricultural research system of Nepal, existing problems, future directions and achievements and further cooperation issues in cooperation with CIMMYT.
Director General of CIMMYT, Dr. Bram Gravoets, expressed his happiness that CIMMYT has helped to discover corn and wheat technology in Nepal in coordination with NARC and NARC is successfully completing the task. He said that CIMMYT is always ready to help in matters like development of wheat and maize varieties in Nepal, increasing the productivity of cropping system, climate smart research model in maize based livelihoods, digital agriculture, agricultural mechanization, capacity building and private sector participation, gender and social inclusion.
Director of Crops and Horticulture, NARC Dr. Tika Bahadur Karki; Director of Financial Administration Mr. Manas Kumar Kandel, Head of Planning Division, NARC Dr. Tek Prasad Gotame, Head of National Soil Science Research Center Dr. Shree Prasad Vista, Head of National Seed Technology Research Center Dr. Pallavi Kumari Singh, Head of National Agriculture Technology Information Centre Dr. Kalika Prasad Upadhyay and others participated in the discussion. Likewise, Dr. Duitiman Chaudhary, Dr. Peter Crawford, Dilli KC, Rudriksha Rai Parajuli, Lizbeth Venivel, Binaya Parajuli, Abdul Rahman Basir and others participated from CIMMYT.
